Dudhsagar waterfall is one of the tallest waterfalls in India. It is India’s fifth tallest waterfall having 310 m in height and 30 m in width. It is situated in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and on the Goa-Karnataka border. When water falls it feels like we are entering in Heaven. White water falling down makes it appear that milk is falling to the ground, so it is also called the ‘Sea of Milk’. (Dudh-Milk, Sagar-sea).
The rail route of Madgaon junction to Belagavi is passed through this waterfall. Dudhsagar Waterfall got more famous after the shooting scenes of the famous Bollywood movie “Chennai Express”. The view from the Dudhsagar rail bridge is awesome. You will get a zoom view of the fall. One part of the fall will be above you and rest of the part is below to bridge. Trains usually run slowly while passing the bridge. Rail route passing through the fall makes this waterfall unique. I have never seen such a type of beauty in my life.
It is four-tiered waterfall located on the Mandovi river in the Indian state of Goa. A trek to Dudhsagar waterfall is one of the ideal picnic spots for trekkers. Due to this stunning beauty, Dudhsagar waterfall is among the one of the most popular waterfalls in all over the World.
How To Reach Dudhsagar Waterfall:
By Train :
You have to catch the train to kulem from Madgaon junction or Vasco-da-Gama station. From kulem you can take taxi to Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary. After entering, you have to buy ticket for a Jeep safari organized by Forest Department which will cost Rs.500 (per person). And then jeeps by the Forest Department will take you to the Dudhsagar waterfall. Private vehicle is not allowed.
I suggest you to take the trek route to make this moment unforgettable and to make it more exciting. The most exciting part of this journey is walking on the railway track, when it passes through the dark tunnels, it gives a bewildering experience.
Pro Tip:
If you are in a train and heading towards the Kulem, you will get the Kalem station just before the Kulem. So don’t be confused between these two stations. As many people get off at the Kalem station instead of the Kulem station.
If you have children or an old age person with you then it would be better to go by jeep given by the Forest Department. If you want to explore Dudhsagar waterfalls during the Rainy season, Jeep safari is not available. Trekking is the only way to reach Dudhsagar waterfall during this time. The jeep safari involves so many adventures things like taking a bumpy ride on the muddy road, going through the dense forest and a walk through Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife sanctuary. You have to buy a life jacket which will cost you Rs.40 per person, you can’t go on a jeep safari without a life jacket.

- From Vasco-da-Gama station to Kulem: 57 km
By Road :
If you are anywhere in Goa, you can take a cab or rent a vehicle. Suppose you are in Baga, the distance between the Baga to Waterfall is about 86 km. It’s better if you visit by your own vehicle. Because if you go by train, you will be reached but there is less chance to come back by train, which will put you in trouble as the trains are not running on the time that we want.
If you want to fully explore the Dudhsagar Waterfall it will take about 5-6 hr. That’s why telling you to visit by your own vehicle, Cab or Taxi. But not to wholly rely on the train.
Best Time To Visit Dudhsagar waterfall:
The best time to visit is between October to March, just after the rainy season. The rainy season is also the best time to feel the beauty of the waterfall. But most of the time in the rainy season, the government closes the waterfall due to rising water levels.
